A veteran, raised in Vauxhall in 1819 as notable for its large glossy leaves and dense foliage as much as the Ruby red double flowers which decorate this evergreen Shrub in the Spring. It prefers some shelter, light shade and neutral to acid, adequately drained soil. 3 m x 3 m.

A free flowering form of this well known evergreen shrub with cerise pink semi double flowers in March / April. Raised in 1954 at Exbury Gardens, near Beaulieu. 2.5 m x 2.5 m but can be pruned after flowering. Prefers some shelter, light shade and a neutral to acid adequately drained soil.
