A fine vigorous evergreen Shrub with large hanging yellow flowers in late Spring. Grows up to 4m high. An hybrid between B, darwinii and B. valdiviana, it is easier to propagate and grow than the latter with most of the good qualities of the former on a larger scale, notably the flowers (which are deep yellow rather than orange) and the leaves. Reliable and straightforward in most soils and situations.

Normally 1.5 m tall and wide, it can grow to 2 m in favourable situations but will tolerate hard pruning. A very reliable plant in most soils and situations apart from heavy shade.

An unusual evergreen berberis from Chile, which can be tricky to propagate and quite slow growing. Ultimately 2 to 3 m high by 2 m across with large, leathery glossy green leaves and drooping clusters of saffron yellow flowers in spring. Can be cut back in very hard winters.
